Overview
Early-stage gold exploration at the north end of the Birch–Uchi greenstone belt
Argo Gold’s 100%-owned Angela Lake Gold Project is in the Casummit Lake area of the Red Lake Mining Division. It sits at the north end of the Birch–Uchi greenstone belt, the same belt that hosts First Mining Gold’s Springpole deposit. Argo staked the claims in 2018.
Geology
There is little rock exposed at the surface, so the project is an early-stage target defined mainly by mineralized boulders and till.
Exploration Potential
The main focus is to find the bedrock source of the gold-bearing boulders. Planned work includes mapping, prospecting and till sampling to define the structure, geology and mineralization.
Highlights
- 1970s: gold was found in basal till in a very localized area.
- 1980s: follow-up work found angular boulders with visible gold up to about 0.5 cm across, carried in thin quartz veinlets in metasedimentary rock. Angular boulders usually haven’t travelled far from where they broke off, which points to a nearby bedrock source.
- Historical drilling hit metasedimentary rock identical to the boulder host rock, including 3.7 g/t gold over 0.3 m.
